How to Connect a Clarinet Lyre to a Clarinet

Attaching a clarinet lyre to a clarinet is a process that only takes a few minutes. The lyre consists of a ring that attaches to the clarinet to make it possible to use a flip folder to play music. Install the clarinet lyre correctly or the instrument may suffer damage and your flip folder may fall in the middle of a performance. Prevent this from happening by installing the clarinet lyre properly.

Step 1 Separate the upper joint from the lower joint of the clarinet by gently twisting and pulling the clarinet apart.

Step 2 Loosen the clarinet lyre ring by turning the screw on the bottom of the lyre.

Step 3 Slide the clarinet lyre ring on to the lower joint of the clarinet and past the cork. Position the ring on the metallic band at the top of the lower joint.

Step 4 Tighten the screw so that the clarinet lyre is securely in place. Make sure to align the lyre so that it's facing straight up while playing. Don't tighten the ring so much that the instrument is damaged. A snug fit is all that is required.

Step 5 Attach the upper joint and place the flip folder in the music lyre.
