How to Convert MP3 Music to MP4 Music

Music can be converted to several audio formats to meet requirements. Jupiterimages/BananaStock/Getty Images Converting files between audio formats require an audio-editing application. To convert any audio file to an MP4 will require an application not found on most computers. Users will have to download a free professional program that allows them to cut, trim, modify and export audio files into the desired format. One of the best programs out there is free and used by professionals to aid in the process of mixing and mastering. Audacity is an open-source audio editing program that only takes a few minutes to download and install.

Step 1 Download the free program Audacity. This is an audio-editing program that will allow you to cut, splice, edit and convert audio formats.

Step 2 Open Audacity, click the "File" menu and then select "Import > Audio." Use the tools to navigate to the file you want to convert and import it. The program will begin to process your audio file.

Step 3 Enter the "File" menu again and select "Export." A dialog box will appear asking where you would like to save the file. Select a location and then click on the format drop-down menu. A list of available conversion types will appear -- select MP4. Click "OK."

Step 4 Enter in the pertinent metadata information for your song in the next dialog box. You will have options for artist name, track title, album title, track number, year, genre, comments, conductor, and composer. You can also edit the form and create additional fields. Click "OK" and you are done.

Some computers will require FFmpeg to export to MP4. If this is the case, you will receive a notification. Click the preferences option under the "Audacity" main menu, go to the "Libraries" file and click the download option under "FFmpeg Library." Follow the instructions to install the library.
