How to Create Art That Glows Under a Black Light

Creating glow-in-the-dark art can be accomplished using specially manufactured paints. These paints come in several colors that when charged with a light source will glow in the dark or under a black light. This can be an enjoyable project to complete with kids or to make unique decorations for a party. Glow-in-the-dark materials are available in paints, markers and cutout sheets that you can assemble into a collage.

Step 1:  Purchase your preferred glow-in-the-dark equipment. You can choose from paints, powders and markers. There are both professional and hobbyist options available.

Step 2:  Create your artwork using stencils or by tracing the design you would like to create. You can also draw using a free-hand technique and just create whatever comes to you. Using pencil will make it possible for you to erase any mistakes and edit your work before applying the glow-in-the-dark product.

Step 3:  Apply your glow-in-the-dark paint, powder or markers to your sketched artwork. Color in between the lines to help create a more dramatic effect when you turn off the lights. Filling your canvas with large sections of color will increase the luminosity of your project.

Step 4:  Try making dual images — paintings that appear normal under daylight and then glow like crazy under the black light. The easiest way to do this is to create a regular painting and then outline select images in clear black-light paint. However, creating a piece of artwork entirely with the bright hues of black-light paint that is equally beautiful under ordinary light will really stretch your creativity.
